PC2 User Meeting 2018

In 2017, the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing has won a project for funding the next generation HPC systems, which is financed by the Research Infrastructure program of the German Council for Science and Humanities. The first HPC installation funded from this grant (Noctua Phase 1) has been inaugurated in September 2018 and will transition from early access to production in December.

Due to the larger HPC installation and co-financing with federal funds, PC2 has been promoted to a Tier-2 HPC center that offers computing services for researchers in North Rhine-Westfalia and nationwide. Access to resources for large scale projects will be provided on a competitive basis based on the scientific evaluation of proposals that can be submitted twice a year. To inform all current and prospective new users about the development of our HPC infrastructure and services and to forster the connections between researchers using our infrastructure, we will host yearly PC2 User Meetings.

The first PC2 User Meeting will be held on December 10, 2018 and we cordially invite all interested persons to join the meeting.

In this year's meeting we will have two invited talks by current customers of PC2 (Prof. Jadran Vrabec and Prof. Jens Förstner), who will report on their recent research. Further, all participants are invited to present their research in a meet-and-greet poster session and to discuss with fellow researches and members of the PC2 management and advisory boards. Finally, the scientific program will be wrapped up with an invited keynote talk by Prof. Dominik Marx.

The technical part of the meeting will comprise information about the hardware and software environment of the Noctua HPC system and an introduction to the new computing time proposal evaluation process which will be implemented in Spring 2019.
