Central Computer Systems

The PC˛ provides central compute services within the University of Paderborn. Several computer systems are available for all registered users.

In general, these computer systems are operated and will be accessable for users day and night. Scheduled maintenance breaks are early announced.  These maintenances shall prevent unpredictable outages. Of course, in general an outage can not be completely excluded, as well as software failures in your application.  Please keep it in mind, when executing applications with multiple days of run time.

Introduction to the Computer Systems of the PC˛

Introduction to computer systems:
The computer systems of the PC˛ are presented. The range of use is discussed and the access to the system is described.

Dr. Jens Simon

Introduction to development tools:
Available development tools of the systems are presented.

Axel Keller

Overview of application software:
Preinstalled programs and applications are presented.

Holger Nitsche

The introduction of systems can be done in our facilities or at your place. Please contact us if you are interested in a meeting. Send your request to our secretary's office.

Access to the Computer Systems

Installation of project accounts:
The project related data is stored in a database. Consumed processing time will be logged in the database.

new project

Installation of user accounts:
User are assigned to projects. A single user can be assigned to more than one project.

Configuration of the parallel filesystem:
Storage capacities can be adjusted to the needs of a user.

The computation resources of the PC˛ are assigned to users depending on the availability. Initial resource limits are set according to a general policy. Well explained requests of users for a temporary individual adjustment can also be considered.

A major interest of the PC˛ is the development of innovative computer architectures. We are looking for joint research and projects in this field and we are interested in providing and sharing access to appropriate systems.
