Curriculum Vitae - Dr.rer.nat. Jens Simon

Jens Simon graduated with a diploma in computer science 1992 and in 1999 he received his PhD - both from the University of Paderborn. From 1992 til 1999, he worked at the Paderborn Center of Parallel Computing (PC2) at the University of Paderborn. From 1999 til 2001, he was the head of the Computer Science Research Group at the Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin (ZIB). Since 2001, Jens Simon is the technical manager and the head of the Parallel Computer Architecture Group of the PC2.
He has presented several articles on national and international conferences and journals targetting optimal process mapping, benchmarking of parallel computers, performance optimization, and performance prediction. He won two times the 'distinguished paper' award of the 'performance evaluation and benchmarking' track at the Euro-Par converence. An article was published in the Supercomputer Journal, the oldest journal devoted entirely to supercomputing.
Jens Simon worked as a referee for some international journals and conferences like ICS, SPAA, IRREGULAR, HPCN, PPL. He was a program committee member of the SCI-Europe 2001, ParCo2003 and a local chair of the Euro-Par 2002. He was an invited speaker of some national and international workshops.
In 2007, Jens Simon and Marco Platzner received an Altera-AMD-Sun-XtremeData University Program Award for their research on model-based performance analysis and optimization.
In 2005, Jens Simon won, jointly with his colleagues Marco Platzner and Ulf Lorenz, a University Research Grant from the Intel Advanced Computing Center for the work in the field of parallel computer architectures.
Jens Simon developed several benchmarking programs and performance monitoring tools. He developed the system architecture of a commerical available high performance Linux cluster system.
His current research interests include innovative parallel computer architectures, system benchmarking, and performance prediction.
