This year's JuliaCon at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz was opened by our HPC Workshop "Performance Engineering with Julia on Modern Supercomputers". The three-hour workshop began with the demystification of modern supercomputers and processor architectures, followed by an in-depth explanation of the performance-engineering workflow in Julia. It concluded with our case study on performance engineering on the basis of the Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Liquid Argon (ArgonMD).
A total of 130 participants gathered on the first day of JuliaCon 2026 to learn how to write performant Julia code and utilize the hardware of HPC cluster systems - which they could try out right away on the PC2 cluster Otus.
In the follow-up workshop on using Julia on multiple GPUs to solve PDEs and more held by our colleagues from University of Lausanne, ETH Zürich and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the participants could continue experimenting on the GPU partition of the Otus cluster.
The annual international conference on the programming language Julia hosts experts and beginners to present new developments, scientific as well as commercial applications and to discuss the language's future. JuliaCon 2026 has once again been a successful and scientifically enriching conference.
