About PC2
The Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing, PC2, is a central scientific institute of Paderborn University, Germany. Our mission is to promote interdisciplinary research in parallel and distributed computing with innovative computer systems. As a National High-Performance Computing Center and member of the National HPC Alliance (NHR), we operate several high-performance computing systems to provide a research and service infrastructure for academic users in Germany.
Our expertise and services are focused on the following areas:
- Atomistic simulations in physics, chemistry and materials science, optoelectronics and quantum photonics, and scientific machine learning for science and engineering.
- Development of massively parallel simulation methods, algorithms and numerical methods in computational science and engineering, targeting heterogeneous computer architectures.
- Energy-efficient computing with FPGA-based hardware accelerators
We exploit the synergies of this unique combination of services and research to meet the needs of the computational sciences while addressing the major challenges in computing systems research: energy efficiency, scalability and programmability.
Our team of HPC and domain experts has deep expertise in these areas, enabling us to advance the state of the art and develop applications science and methodologies in collaboration with the users of our infrastructure. We actively contribute to strengthening the methodological skills of our users by offering and co-organising specialised training courses, scientific workshops and summer schools. We also contribute our developments to widely used scientific software and libraries to make the results available to the wider research community.

Travel Advice
Location
Paderborn University has two locations. Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing is located in building X at the main site (Campus Warburgerstrasse) south of the city center. The building address is Mersinweg 5, 33098 Paderborn. Here is a map of the campus.
Below you can find specific travel instructions for arriving by public transport or by car.
Public Transport
Arrive by train at Paderborn Hbf / Hauptbahnhof (main station). For schedules and booking of tickets, you can use the Deutsche Bahn website.
Local busses in Paderborn are operated by PaderSprinter. Leaving the train station you find the bus station to your left on the same side of the road. The fastest connection is line 100, which takes you directly from the station to the university campus (exit at bus stop Uni/Südring) during weekdays. You may also take line 1 towards Kaukenberg or line 4 towards Dahl and exit at bus top Uni/Südring. You find the exact schedule and fare information at the pages of the PaderSprinter.
After leaving the bus at the Uni/Südring stop, you can reach us in about 5 minutes by walking. Walk back Südring street where your bus has been driving about 100 meters (towards the direction of Südringcenter shopping mall) until you reach the intersection Südring/Pohlweg. Cross the street and turn into Pohlweg. Follow Pohlweg and turn left on the first intersection into Mersingweg. Building X is easily recognizable by its antracite-colored facade.
