The NHR Conference 2025 took place in Göttingen from September 22 to 25, 2025. It was officially opened by Prof. Christian Plessl, Director of the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing and Chairman of the NHR Association. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of high-performance computing for research and the close cooperation within the NHR network.
The conference was divided into two parts: In the first part, the latest research results from the field of high-performance scientific computing and AI were presented. Exciting keynotes, workshops, and posters provided insights into the main topics of the conference, namely AI in social sciences & humanities, life sciences, and data management & storage.
The second part was dedicated to exchange within the NHR. Numerous working groups took the opportunity to plan joint projects, share experiences, and further deepen cooperation between the HPC centers. Highlights from PC2's perspective included both Lennart Van Hirtum's workshop on his new hardware description language SUS (https://sus-lang.org/) and an event led by the NHR board of directors on the topic of “The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts”.
This time, PC2 traveled with a delegation of twelve people. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive: the scientific part of the conference provided valuable inspiration and exciting insights into current fields of research, while the internal meetings laid the foundation for future collaborations. The conference thus impressively achieved its goal of promoting scientific excellence and close networking within the NHR network.
A special highlight for PC2: The NHR Conference 2026 will take place in Paderborn. The team is already looking forward to welcoming the NHR community to its own location and continuing the successful tradition of the conference next year.
