PC2 Hosts Second Hackathon to Tackle High-Performance Computing Challenges

 |  Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC2)

From the 26th to the 29th of August 2024, the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC2) hosted its second annual hackathon, bringing together researchers with diverse scientific backgrounds to collaborate on innovative High-Performance Computing (HPC) projects.

This year's event focused on topics such as the design of high-performance simulation software, porting code to FPGAs, performance engineering of existing code, and advancing quantum computing methods.

The four projects covered in this year's hackathon were

  1. Simulation advances for the Continuous-Variable Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (CVAO),
  2. Enhanced Computational Fluid Dynamics using modern Fortran,
  3. FPGA support integration in PLSSVM for more efficient machine learning computation,
  4. Optimization of FPGA code for better Magneto Hydrodynamics simulation and improved mesh refinement in scientific applications.

For a detailed account of these projects, refer to the attached reports.
